China Will Crack Down On Online Gambling Industry,

According to a statement from the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), a campaign has been launched to crack down on "domestic and foreign groups that organize online gambling, and severely punish criminals".
The campaign will be at its most intense from February to June 2010 and it will also seek to disrupt the banking arrangements that facilitate online gambling, and target website operators that host these services.
The MPS states that online gambling "has caused large amounts of money to flow out of China and disturbed the country's social and economic order and the illegal activity has continued to thrive despite previous crackdowns."
The campaign is a joint operation of eight party and governmental organizations including the MPS, the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate and the China Banking Regulatory Commission.
This move is seen as part of a concerted effort to assert control over Chinese people's interaction with the Internet. For a long time the Chinese government has strived to prevent internet pornography from reaching China, and the potential of Internet tools such as Youtube, Twitter, Flickr and Facebook to facilitate organized protest, as seen in Iran, led to these being blocked last year.
